Job Description Software Engineer Our financial services client has an opportunity for an individual to participate in the design, development, and implementation of mission critical web applications and financial planning tools. Under minimal supervision, conduct the analysis, design and development of software in a J2EE environment. Act as a lead developer contributing to the overall success of projects as they move through the different phases of the project life cycle. You will work with our immediate team as well as our partners in both the systems and business groups. You should be able to articulate technical designs, define strategies and work closely with fellow developers, both onshore and offshore. You must also be able to describe problems and make recommendations to management. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for all phases of the Development Life Cycle by defining and implementing system solutions that address business requirements. Your knowledge will be called upon to set guidelines and standards that will allow our team to continue to deliver important and vital solutions for our customers. Our projects involve developing brokerage functions and tools used by Registered Investment Advisors and Third Party Analysts, specifically for the WealthCentral, Streetscape and AdvisorChannel.com. As a Software Engineer your responsibilities include: Java Web Development using MVC Design Pattern. Capable of completing hands on development of complex components of applications. Self starter that can complete complex tasks with minimal direction. Evaluates software development processes to incrementally improve quality and reduce time to market. Good team player that can interact with technology specialists, technology owners, project managers and system analysts. Provides technical direction in all areas of the application. Works with project manager to ensure that assigned work is completed efficiently, meets business requirements, stays within scope, and is delivered on time. Participates in requirements gathering and scope estimation meetings. Plays a key role in resolving technical roadblocks involving multiple technologies. Recommends appropriate tools and technologies in conformance to FBCT standards and suitability to task. Participates in reviews of unit and system test cases Responsible for writing Technical Systems Design (TSD) document and reviewing all project artifacts including requirements (SRA), functional specifications (SDS), process narratives, and coding standards. Performing functional analysis, technical analysis, coding and unit testing for moderate-sized financial services applications. Participating in functional/technical group discussions with analysts and developers under minimal supervision Qualifications BS in Computer Science, or equivalent 5+ years of development experience with strong working knowledge of Web Services, OOA/D, Java, MVC/Struts/Spring, JSP, HTML, and XML Rich Internet application development, including ExtJS, jQuery, Flash, Flex 3.0 and AJAX is desirable but not required Demonstrated ability to influence and lead technical design discussions Ability to manage time, work independently, and meet deadlines for concurrent projects/assignments, and to work in a fast paced, highly matrixed environment to achieve group goals Excellent written and verbal communication skills Location: Smithfield, RI
