Online/Social Media Editor
Position: Online/Social Media Editor -- One Billion Rising, a V-Day campaign Type: Full or part time contract (August 2012 - March 2013) Reports to: Executive Director, V-Day Location: San Francisco, CA Job Summary: Working with V-Day's team, the Online/Social Media Editor will channel the voice of the movement through copy writing; digital, social media and mobile strategy; and curating of user-generated content on V-Day's One Billion Rising web site. Our ideal candidate is a media-savvy blogger or seasoned online/social media specialist with her own sharp, fresh, well-informed voice, a demonstrated interest in women's empowerment, and experience with social media platforms and various web publishing tools. S(he) would be a proactive researcher who can uncover great stories and present them as engaging web content. Experience organizing a V-Day event, or organizing any events that combine art and activism is a plus. Primary Responsibilities: -Work with V-Day team to create a distinct editorial voice for the One Billion Rising campaign -Review, curate, and publish user-generated content for the One Billion Rising web site -Write & edit V-Day content, including online press releases and blog posts that highlight current news stories about V-Day and about the issue of violence against women globally -Report on V-Day's impact throughout the world by keeping track of media coverage and being in contact with V-Day's most prolific activists -Design and implement social media strategy for the campaign; develop strategies and innovative content to grow social media and website audiences. -Tweet and write Facebook updates -Provide day to day project management and execution of campaign's mobile text campaign -Create copy to introduce One Billion Rising media on Youtube, Vimeo, Pinterest -Develop digital materials calendar and work with various departments to manage multiple projects at a time -Measure, analyze and document the impact of digital content across channels -Track website traffic and social media metrics weekly, keeping stats charts up to date -Create presentations on campaign analyses, social media ROI, etc. -Monitor V-Day's Google Ads account to improve the success of our ad campaigns -Research new networks and sites that may be beneficial to One Billion Rising/V-Day -Research social media trends -Keep abreast of best practices in online communications and fundraising -Work with V-Day staff to craft a consistent editorial voice across V-Day's web sites and newsletters Required skills/experience: -Three to five years of substantial digital & social media experience with political, advocacy, news and/or non-profit organizations -Knowledge of a wide variety of social media platforms: Facebook Pages, Facebook Causes, Twitter, Linked-In, Change.org, Social Vibe, Flickr, YouTube, etc. -Experience tweeting/ FB status writing/blogging aboutcurrent news stories for a social movement, entertainer, or news provider -Basic web content management skills using one of the common CMS platforms -Ability to interpret Google Analytics, newsletter metrics -Excellent Excel, Word skills -Digital image-editing skills (cropping, image & resolution size, etc) -Experience updating & embedding Youtube and/or Vimeo posts -Ability to work virtually from home, and with a small team Bonus skills: -Experience using an online CRM such as Convio to send and track newsletters -Experience interviewing a subject for a video documentary or news story -Basic video editing/compression Keywords: Writing and editing
