Sr. Manager, Network Architecture & Design
Summary: The Sr. Manager, Network Architecture and Design will be responsible for providing high-quality, reliable, flexible, and appropriate infrastructure networking technology solutions. These systems will be used worldwide for multiple Business Units to deliver both theatrical and television content with extremely tight SLAs. The Sr. Manager, Network Architecture and Design will work very closely with Business Unit and Information Technology analysts, technicians, engineers and executives in order to properly design and support these systems. The Sr. Manager, Network Architecture and Design will be responsible for all technical aspects of networking design and implementation. Responsibilities: Providing leadership in IT for the development of highly appropriate, tightly integrated, consistently available, secure, flexible, and fault-tolerant systems. Creating, architecting, developing, and installing solutions to complex technical, procedural, and logistical problems. Designing, implementing, and testing information technology security mechanisms and systems in the context of the networking infrastructure. Identifying, testing, developing and implementation of new technologies. Enhancing the integration of disparate, heterogeneous systems. Assisting in creating and developing formal guidelines and policies to ensure appropriate systems support and designs. Working with IT staff and appropriate members of the Academic divisions to provide responsive solutions and options for problems and opportunities. Monitoring the development of new standards with TCP/IP and other networking technologies with particular attention to the impact on the Rice networking environment. Acting as a consultant to other departments regarding network design and support (meetings, design assistance, support, working with F&E on projects). Completing projects and tasks independently and with limited direct supervision. Requirements: At least 12 years of experience managing complex, infrastructure projects is required. At least 12 years of technical experience with designing, implementing, operating and troubleshooting TCP/IP and Ethernet-based network architectures is required. At least 7 years of hands-on experience with Cisco networking hardware (switches, routers, hubs, bridges, gateways, and optical interface modules) is required. At least 10 years of hands-on experience with Cisco's IOS software is required. At least 5 years of BGP and OSPF routing protocols is required. At least 10 year of experience with network firewalls, load balancers, and/or traffic shapers is required. 5 or more years of experience with advanced unicast routing technologies (BGP, OSPF) and multiple ISPs are required. 5 years of experience working in an environment with converged, structured cabling systems (analog/digital voice and data) are required. At least 5 years of experience with Multicast routing and switching technologies are preferred. At least 2 years of experience using or implementing IPV6 in an enterprise is preferred. At least 10 years of experience with systems architecture and administration is preferred. Experience in an academic environment is preferred. Project management experience is preferred. Hands-on experience with hardware and software from 2 or more networking vendors (Cisco, Juniper, Foundry, Riverbed, Avaya) is strongly preferred. Working understanding of the technical aspects of implementing and operating VoIP systems is preferred.
