Cognos Developer
TITLE: Developer II SUMMARY The role of a Developer II write, code, test, and analyze software programs and applications. This includes researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software specifications throughout the production life cycle. The Developer II will also analyze and amend software errors in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide status reports where required. Strong knowledge in Cognos Suite: - Framework Manager Modeling experience is a must - Report Studio experience in understanding reporting requirements, troubleshooting issues and testing additions and modifications to packages. - Working knowledge in Query Studio and Analysis Studio - Database experience with Oracle, SQL Server - Transformer 8.3 a plus - Data Warehouse experience and knowledge a plus - Noetix - a plus but not required ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Recommends, schedules, and performs software improvements and upgrades. 2. Assists developers, analysts, and designers in conceptualizing and development of new software programs and applications. 3. Collaborates with analysts and designers in the development and initiation of new software programs and applications. 4. Participates in the quality assurance of program logic, data processing, and error resolution. 5. Cultivates and disseminates knowledge of application development best practices. 6. Runs and monitors software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging. 7. Liaises with network administrators, systems analysts, and software engineers to assist in resolving problems with software products or company software systems. 8. Assists in defining software development project plans, including scoping, scheduling, and implementation. 9. Consistently writes, translates, and codes software programs and applications according to specifications. 10. Administers critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to critical areas. 11. Develops an awareness of programming and design alternatives. 12. Performs research on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts. 13. Other duties as assigned or as situation dictates. WORKING CONDITIONS - Overtime hours may be required to meet project deadlines. - Some travel may be required for the purpose of off-site software installation or to research user requirements and workflow. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES - College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science, information science, management information systems, or business administration and 3 to 5 years related work experience. - Working technical knowledge of applicable programming languages commensurate with number of years experience. - Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Windows, AS/400, and Unix. - Working knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards. - Excellent written and oral communication skills. - Excellent listening and interpersonal skills. - Experience with conducting research into systems issues and products as required. - Experience with communicating ideas in both technical and user-friendly language. - Keen attention to detail. - Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities. - Experience with effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. - Strong customer service orientation. - Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
