Duration: 5 Months Contract Location: Boston, MA/ Zip Code: 02110 Compensation: Depend on Experience Role: UNIX Application Support Analyst Role Description: The UNIX Application Support Analyst would need to have at least at 5+ years of experience. Responsibilities: - Provide 2nd/3rd level Application Support and automate support processes for both Mission Critical and Non Critical Applications. This job entails extensive research and troubleshooting of application and data related issues as it pertains to engineering, data collection, mediation, reconciliation and provisioning. - Requires working with cross functional teams to automate day-to-day support procedures and be the focal point of contact for the first level support team. - Troubleshoot issues, proactively check system services, monitor system performance, check logs, and initiate critical escalation calls to system development and/or system administrators when necessary. - Contribute to continuous process improvement through activities such as innovation, script development to automate recurring tasks, and consolidation. - Clearly communicate with users and support staff, both verbally and in writing. - Typically assigned project responsibility for highly sophisticated, complex integrated systems. Projects are major in scope and require the application of advanced subject matter expertise to resolve diverse problems that cannot be solved at lower levels. Problems frequently lack precedent or standards and involve analysis of varied and sometimes conflicting data. - Normally receives general work instructions on non-routine work assignments and requires additional instructions and guidance on more complex, new assignments. - Decisions are made independently. - Assigned multiple projects are generally reviewed after completion. - Contact is typically advisory or negotiate in nature and involves both exchange of technical or complex information and is called upon to convince or negotiate with senior levels of management or equivalents on matters of significant consequence to the company. Required Skills Technical Skills Required: - Strong in UNIX and Shell scripting, Perl, and AWK. - PL/SQL (programming), TCP/IP Networking, Java, and Web Services. - Operating Systems: Sun Solaris 9 or higher, AIX 5.1 or higher, and Linux. - RDBMS: Experience working with large databases (Not DBA) Oracle 10G. - Middleware: Tomcat, Apache. Required Skills & Experience: - Candidate must have 6 to 7 years test experience in either software development or application support. - Detailed knowledge of software development lifecycle and application support. - Ability to work both independently and within a team-oriented environment. - Must be flexible and possess the ability to work in an environment with aggressive and changing deadlines. - Strong analytical and problem solving skills. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills. - Demonstrates in-depth knowledge in job-related functional area and of the business. - Fluent in English. - Preferred 6 to 7 years of job-related, systems analysis experience. - Experience and understanding of some or all of the following areas within Client Application Support Functions: MARCH. - Knowledge of MARCH Templates and Patterns. - Minimum Education: Bachelors degree in Information Systems or equivalent. Desired Skills: - Past experience with Telcordia applications is highly desirable. - Middleware: Apache is highly desirable. - SQL is a plus.
