The Web Copywriter contractor collaborates with the members of a small fast-paced start-up team that includes user interface developers, designers, a content strategist, product managers, and a driven Agile Development Team to communicate the product visions of this new company through Java based web tools. This two-month contract role primary requires writing and editing compelling web copy for a national audience. Essential Functions: * Write and edit creative, engaging content for web properties and applications (concise user focused explanatory copy, FAQs, and error messages) * Partner with Web Content Strategist, UX Designer, and the Product Team to produce products that educate and empower the health consumer * Partner with subject matter experts to explain product / tool to an end user in easy-to-understand manner * Participate in collaborative multi-disciplinary work sessions, shepherding content through the Agile Development Process * Track, coordinate, and prioritize concurrent Web projects * Maintain consistent writing style and voice across channels * Ensure that online content complies with corporate brand standards, web style guide, legal, and compliance Additional Functions: * Operate without day-to-day formal guidance * Work primarily is performed in an office environment * Work well in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment Minimum Job Qualifications and Technical Competencies: * A BA degree in English, Journalism, Advertising, Marketing, other relevant field, or equivalent education and experience * 4+ years of demonstrated experience writing for the web * Excellent copywriting, editing, and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail * Must have a background in web content and the ability to write concisely and effectively to create web experiences that are compelling, informative, and user-friendly * The ability to be flexible and able to shift gears quickly; think 'on the fly' and be able to deal with competing priorities is necessary * Strong technical literacy with skills in the following systems: Word, basic HTML, XML and MS Excel and PowerPoint * Experience working with content management systems is preferred * Excellent communicator with the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically in cross-functional teams * Utilize user empathy and passion for creating a great user experience * Possess 'outside-the-box' problem solving capabilities * Possess project management skills with the ability to organize and execute multiple projects under tight deadlines * Possess knowledge of web analytics * Experience in insurance or health industry, eCommerce, or retail industry is desired * Ability to use copy to guide users through the web experience with as few words as possible * Experience working with a cross-functional team in an Agile Development environment is preferred * Be comfortable communicating on a reasonably technical level with members of the Agile Product Development Team
