Description: We have a large client that is looking for a "Java Guru" with 20+ years of experience in the IT industry and is willing to take a consultant approach to mentor developers and enhance Java based applications. This Senior Developer is responsible for providing technical leadership through hands-on design and implementation of Java based solutions while providing technical guidance to the other development team members through design and code reviews. Projects encompass a suite of internally facing applications that are utilized in regulation of the client's member firms. The applications are used for conducting financial examinations of firms, to author and maintain content that is used by other exam related systems in Java. Role responsibilities include: - Being a primary driver in devising, selecting and optimizing technical solutions to meet business requirements. - Flexible in trying new technologies and approaches in creating a rich browser-based application experience. - Driving architectural patterns and design improvements including performance tuning to realize SLA objectives and minimize long-term maintenance costs. - Contribute thought leadership on approach, design, and process by providing alternatives, estimates and revealing trade-offs to facilitate the making of rational decisions - Working with the Technical Project Manager and developers to oversee and drive iterative SDLC. - Establish and maintain technical credibility through hands-on execution in designing and implementing elegant and maintainable solutions to business problems. - Be fully engaged as a member of a development team contributing in iteration and release planning, group problem solving sessions, pair programming, code reviews and retrospectives. - Take initiative and proactively communicate with and amongst the team...push collaboration and transparency. - Triage and resolve issues that arise throughout development iterations provide transparency into obstacles and paths to resolution. - Provide testing support to the QC practice as needed to ensure high standards of quality. - Spend ~50% of capacity thinking in code (development and code reviews) and mentoring team members - Spend ~50% of capacity in research to make improvements and enhancements to existing systems Requirements: - Practice applying architectural & design patterns to elegantly solve real problems (not simply following a blueprint provided by others) - Excellent communication (written and verbal) and inter-personal skills presenting a levelheaded and professional demeanor. Clear English diction, both in person and over the phone is a must. - Minimum of 12 years of technical, hands-on˜ode experience - Strong, demonstrate-able Java skills (10+ years experience necessary) - Delivered to production several large-scale Java applications solving complex business problems where responsible for the technical direction and implementation. - Deep and demonstrate-able knowledge of Java technologies and frameworks. - Spring, Hibernate, Struts required. Oracle database skills. - Experience with iterative and agile development techniques and evangelism of its virtues. - Personal accountability for delivery on past projects required.
