In the role of AIX / Linux / Unix System Administrator, you will be responsible to provide 24x7 Unix support in a heterogeneous server environment. The environment consists of Veritas Cluster, AIX HA-CMP, virtual and physical assets, backup application; (Veritas NetBackup and TSM), DNS and DHC servers, Keon, instrumentation, and SAN/storage servers. You must work closely with different lines of business to bring resolution to all issues and perform proactive duties such as patch management and software upgrades. You will perform duties following all standards regarding engagement, change management, and escalations. In addition, you will provide timely resolution to break/fix issues. This position is located in Houston, Texas. Shifts hours are based on a 24x7x365 follow the sun model: early or late shift, 7:00 AM - 6PM ET or 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM; Sunday through Wednesday or Wednesday through Saturday. The following skills, knowledge and experience are required for this position unless noted otherwise: * Ability to escalate to vendors and provide root cause analysis and incident reports * Ability to work independently as well as with a group * Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience working with Linux and AIX Servers in a production environment * Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience * Knowledge of Solaris 8, 9 & 10 * Understanding of security best practices for multi-tiered operating systems * Advanced scripting abilities with Shell and Perl * Understanding of backup process, system monitoring, performance tuning, disaster recovery, and scripting for Solaris and Linux based OS * Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment * Effective written and verbal communication skills * Ability to develop strong client relationships * Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Tivoli and SunMC * Knowledge of Open SSH * Ability to work under pressure * Knowledge of MS Suite is a plus * Knowledge of Sun F15 and E25K platforms and SMS is a plus * Knowledge of Opsware is a plus * Ability to work unconventional shifts
