Update and optimise a Ruby on Rails application - SQL Ruby on Rails Ruby
My (small) cinema's Till system is a bespoke application written in Ruby for Ruby on Rails by one of my customers. Works really well but is a bit slow (takes about 7 seconds to bring back the film list) and seems that it will not run on the latest version of Ruby on Rails. I have attempted to install on the version 1.9 something of Ruby on Rails but gives loads of Ajax errors - don't know what I'm talking about here. The application is currently working under version 1.8.6 on a Windows 2003 Server. The Database is MySQL. The web server is Apache with Mongrel load balancing. Not sure why it is needed but since I have had no success reinstalling I need the code modernising and made possible to run on Windows 2003, XP and newer. There are two sides to the application; Back Office and Tills. The back office when putting shows in stops the Tills working until it has finished combing the database and the Tills side is slow when selecting current films. After that is fairly quick though a bit flaky. The Tills has about 600 lines of code. The Back Office more compartmentalised. The database is shared by the web server that faces the internet and runs very successfully under asp.net. Written by another customer. The existing code will obviously be provided, the database contains sensitive customer data so will have to be cleaned in order to provide a copy.
