Job Description: SLAIT Consulting is currently seeking a mid-level Linux System Engineer capable of using established processes and tools to support a mid-size to large IT environment. This is a long-term contract position located in the Richmond, VA Area. The Engineer will evaluate data and develop plans for timely completion of assigned tasks. Provide technical guidance to peers and business owners. Basic Qualifications: To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below: •Understanding of IT service delivery •Proven customer services in a complex environment •Excellent interpersonal skills •Self-motivated and ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment •Must be a team player, proactive, and possess excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills •Bachelor's degree (or equivalent relevant experience) and 3 Years with Bachelors (1 Year with Masters) •Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance •Comprehensive working knowledge of the structure and design of Unix systems in general, Linux distributions especially, and RHEL/Centos/Oracle Linux 5 specifically. •Command line experience required Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration: •Experience in implementation, security hardening, and other routine maintenance tasks •Be able to provide recommendations for improving existing systems, knowledge transfer of expertise, and assist with staff development and automate daily administration tasks •Must have working understanding of Linux LVM2, networking, and boot sequence •Must have some experience with system scripting (bash, perl, or python), sed and awk skills a plus •Knowledge and prior experience with SAN, lights out administration hardware, NAS, Samba, SSH, Firewalls, TCP/IP networking, and Netbackup preferred •Prior experience with Weblogic, PeopleSoft, and Oracle RAC a plus. Hardware: Knowledge of the following types of hardware. Server hardware, Blade hardware, SAN
