Development Manager
Position Summary: The International Museum of Women (IMOW) is seeking a dynamic and conscientious Development Manager to support the Museum through a critical fundraising period, with a particular focus on leadership of the Museum’s March 2013 Annual Gala. The ideal candidate will have strong event management expertise, be a proven generator of corporate event sponsorships and possess exemplary skills in interacting with Board and committee members, staff, volunteers and donors. The Development Manager will also lead efforts to secure final revenue and sponsorships for IMOW’s 2013 online exhibition, Muslim Women’s Art & Voices, and oversee day to day development efforts including grant and report writing, the annual appeal and management of a Development and Marketing Assistant. The International Museum of Women is an innovative online museum based in San Francisco with a mission to inspire creativity, awareness and action on vital global issues for women. Our online exhibitions attract a global audience of over half a million visitors per year. The Development Director will have a passion for the arts, for global issues and for advancing women’s rights and empowerment. This is a full-time contract position, initially through April 2013, with the possibility of extension. The position is based at IMOW’s offices in San Francisco. Responsibilities: 2013 Annual Gala Lead all fundraising and marketing efforts for IMOW’s 2013 Annual Gala, including ticket and table sales and corporate sponsorships. Achieve or exceed revenue targets. Coordinate and manage work of all Gala committees and external event producer to ensure event logistics flow smoothly Manage IMOW’s annual technology innovator award (last year’s Gala recipient was Marissa Mayer) Manage production of all gala collateral including online and print materials Muslim Women’s Art & Voices Exhibition Funding Secure remaining funds needed to support 2013 Muslim Women’s Art & Voices exhibition, including corporate and major donor support Originate and implement fundraising concept and plan for 2014 exhibition Other Fundraising Responsibilities Develop and implement fund development strategy in alignment with organizational goals Plan and implement annual year-end appeal. Support Executive Director and Board in all fundraising activities and outreach Initiate all online fundraising including website, email and social media Develop grant proposals and reports Manage Development and Marketing Assistant and oversee all development administration (database maintenance including receipt, processing, and gifts entry, preparation, processing, and mailing of gift acknowledgments and other donor communications including reminders etc.), as well as office management and IT (with outside vendor) Other activities and projects as directed Skills and Competencies: Undergraduate degree – advanced degree preferred At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising Demonstrated competence in event management – preference for experience working on annual fundraising events, and working with committees and event chairs Track record in securing event sponsorships from corporations and individuals Expertise in writing, designing and producing effective written and PowerPoint funding proposals, with demonstrated success in securing funds Strong knowledge of all aspects of fundraising administration including database management Proven ability to collaborate and develop excellent relationships with colleagues, Board and committee members, volunteers and donors Ability to assume responsibility and to thrive in a small organization with limited resources, and to meet multiple competing deadlines under pressure Positive and optimistic ‘can do’ attitude and a strong work ethic Commitment to the mission of the International Museum of Women, including passions for the arts and for women’s global human rights Keywords: Event planning
