Java Software Engineer St. Louis, MO Sr. Software Engineer This position will assist the Director of Software Development in delivering value-added products to the internal user community which exhibit the following characteristics: on-schedule, on-budget, high quality, and high availability. Essential Duties: • Design and implement software solutions for management of Savvis systems that are reliable and maintainable. • Develop architectures that are scalable and can easily be updated with future changes/enhancements. • Automate the configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of the above solutions. • Mentor others on the team by instructing them in the SDLC process, reviewing their designs and code, and overseeing integration and deployment of modules they develop. • Translate functional requirements into technical specifications • Create development environment for efficient testing and integration • Provide support to production systems • Ensure that the software developed both personally and by the rest of the team has been tested at a modular level as well as integration tested. Document test plans and review test plans written by others. Required Skills: • 7+ years full lifecycle software development experience • 5+ years (senior level) design and development experience in Java, specifically, the following skills: Core Java • Spring • Web services using CXF • 5+ years (senior level) design and development experience in Perl, specifically, the following skills: Application development (as opposed to strictly CGI or maintenance scripts) • DBI/DBD, especially Sybase and Oracle • Usage as well as creation of Perl modules • Advanced database programming in one or more of the following relational databases: MSSQL • Oracle • MySQL • 5+ years development/maintenance experience in UNIX shell scripting • Outstanding oral and written communication with all levels • Experience in agile software development practices Desired skills: • Experience with SNMP fundamentals (TRAP, GET, GETNEXT, etc.) • Experience with database design and administration (MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL) Education: • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience • Master’s degree preferred
