Functions of the Developer Include: Understand and analyze front- and middle-office business requirements Efficiently design and implement solutions in line with our architectural standards and support testing, conversion, and handover to our dedicated first-level support group Structure and plan development activity and coordinate across multiple systems and regions Integrate into the global technology development team, e.g., collaborating on global improvement opportunities for our trading infrastructure Provide application support to the first-level support group, and to the business as required Develop and support front and middle-office systems for the Chief Investment Office (CIO) Our trading infrastructure covers trade capture and processing, risk management, P/L reporting; and feeds to our dedicated back-office and to many global corporate systems It consists mainly of Sybase Databases maintained with extensive batch processing, with data presented to users through to lightweight Excel and Actuate front-ends Additionally, we have a number of integrated applications based on J2EE We trade a wide range of fixed-income and equity securities and derivatives (Exchange-traded and OTC) across multiple trading strategies in the interest-rate, credit, and equity markets as well as fixed-income and equity The ideal candidate has excellent analytical and technical skills combined with great interpersonal abilities and a positive attitude. He or she will thrive in a dynamic business-focused environment which values and rewards delivery of technology which adds real business value, and where change is a constant factor. Required Skills: Excellent database development experience (data modeling and SQL; Sybase would be preferable) Strong Analyst Shell scripting (primarily csh and Perl on Linux) Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required. Frequent interaction with the front, middle and back office Preferences: Understanding of buy-side investment management and relevant financial instruments, including MBS Understanding of the software lifecycle and structured approaches to development (CMM or similar) ClearCase or Subversion AutoSys job scheduling Excel and VBA development J2EE web application development: HTML, JSP and EJB (on WebLogic), and XML Skills: Linux Perl Sybase
