Position: Designer / Front-End Developer Salary Range $35-45K Red Chalk Studios is a thriving, boutique visual communications creative agency, deeply rooted in the fundamentals of good design and strategic thinking. We are searching for a full-time, highly motivated designer, and front-end developer with a passion for the web and everything digital and design to join our close-knit team. RESPONSIBILITIES Designing and implementing the look-and-feel of new websites and related materials for a wide range of clients and industries Maintaining and enhancing existing websites Creating sitemaps, wireframes, and visual design comps for web projects Using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP to implement the designs you and other team members create Working with CMS platforms (primarily WordPress), within a template framework, theming systems, or building from scratch Designing for multiple devices and interactions (such as desktops and touch devices like smartphones and tablets) Ensuring excellent user experience throughout design and implementation Collaborating with the team and clients Managing projects from start to finish QUALIFICATIONS Required Ability to produce attractive designs and user-friendly interfaces Experience working with and producing sitemaps, wireframes, visual design comps Experience with front-end development with proficiency in handcrafted HTML/CSS (particularly HTML5 and CSS3) Well-versed in modern Web Standards, web optimization techniques and best practices Experience designing, marking up and styling page templates in a CMS (such as WordPress) or templating framework A portfolio that demonstrates excellent color theory, page layout and typography skills Interest in designing sites for mobile devices Proficiency in graphic design software (Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator) Robust online portfolio demonstrating a solid understanding of UX/UI best practices and an ability to craft unique user experiences Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience Willingness to work locally at our Virginia Beach office Preferred Experience designing, theming or developing for WordPress. Experience with at least one JavaScript framework (such as jQuery) Experience designing or building websites for multiple devices and interactions (such as desktops, touch devices like smartphones and tablets, and simpler devices like feature phones) Working knowledge of Google Analytics Strong understanding of SEO practices Experience with Social Media marketing and app development Experience designing for print The candidate who would excel in this position loves creating rich online experiences and gladly spends time learning about new technologies and ways of implementing their ideas.
